The vegetative debris operation has been in constant operation at this location since 2009 and they were previously approved under SUP 110808SU (Resolution #11-R-395) to be permitted to utilize food waste products to augment the vegetative debris\\par\r\ncomposting in November of 2011. The technology was not implemented and SUP 110808SU was not renewed.\\f1\\fs22  The current composting operation is \\fs24 permissible \\ldblquote by-right\\rdblquote  under the Heavy Industrial (M-2) zoning designation.\\par\r\n\\f2\\fs20\\par\r\n\\par\r\nThis item went to the planning and zoning commission and there were questions about potential smell and groundwater contamination. Planning staff worked with Solid Waste to discuss those issues and create conditions to require more test wells and monitoring of the water to ensure that water quality standards are met for the potential chemicals leeching into the ground. Planning staff also has a condition to use one of several ways to eliminate the odor before the odor leaves the subject property.
