(Chief of Police)\n\nStaff recommends approval.\n\n..Background:\nThe League City Police Department proposes to purchase 125 Generation IV Glock 17 pistols with night sights; this will update and standardize officers’ equipment, providing a variety of training, operational and budgetary benefits. The department has secured a quote from GT Distributors to provide the pistols for a total cost of $51,125. This will allow the department to standardize and purchase ammunition in larger lots, therefore decreasing the cost per case of ammunition. This will also provide each officer with a standardized weapon system for commonality and provide interchangeability of ammunition and magazines during emergencies. This proposal’s other benefits include:\n\n·\tStandardize training received by each officer;\n·\tDecrease cost per round of ammunition for duty and training by converting to 9 mm;\n·\tUtilize the many Glock Armorer’s currently at the Department for in-house maintenance and repair of weapons; \n·\tReduce likelihood of weapon modification, and thereby Department and City liability, due to policy restriction for Department issued gear;\n·\tEstablish maintenance schedules to prolong useful life of weapons and inventories of replacement parts common to all weapons;\n·\tProvide immediate replacement from inventory for malfunctioning weapons or weapons taken into evidence after shooting incidents without need for transitional training;\n·\tEliminate risk of new officers being unable to purchase a weapon in a timely manner due to current and future Federal mandates;\n·\tMaintain minimal inventories of holster and magazine pouches for issuance to new officers and for replacement of damaged gear.\n\nThe League City Police Department currently has 111 sworn officer positions. Purchasing 125 Glock pistols should provide a moderate inventory available to issue as new positions are added in the coming years and also to ensure replacements are available for immediate issue when necessary.\n\nThis equipment will be purchased from GT Distributors using the BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing Contract.\n\n \t\nFUNDING\n{ } NOT APPLICABLE\n{ } Funds are available from Account #___________________________\t\t\n{x} Requires Budget Amendment \n\n\n ","MatterTextRtf":"{\\rtf1\\ansi\\ansicpg1252\\deff0\\deflang1033{\\fonttbl{\\f0\\fmodern\\fprq1\\fcharset0 Courier New;}{\\f1\\froman\\fprq2\\fcharset0 Times New Roman;}{\\f2\\froman\\fprq2\\fcharset2 Symbol;}{\\f3\\fnil\\fcharset0 Times New Roman;}{\\f4\\fnil\\fcharset0 Arial;}}\r\n{\\colortbl ;\\red0\\green0\\blue0;}\r\n\\viewkind4\\uc1\\pard\\f0\\fs20 ..Title\\par\r\n\\pard\\qj\\f1\\fs22 Consider and take action to purchase 125 Glock pistols for the Police Department.
