Glock pistols are reliable, easy to maintain, and replacement parts are readily available. The Police Department last upgraded its pistols approximately 12 years ago (2011) to Generation 4 Glocks. The Glocks and the night sights have both reached their life expectancy. The night sights allow an officer to better align the pistol sights in diminished light conditions. Statistics show that most officer-involved shootings occur during low-light situations. Glock has trained numerous Joliet Police Officers to be Glock armors so the Police Department is able to repair and maintain pistols in-house.\n\nCONCLUSION:\nGlock is now producing Generation 5 Glock pistols. The new generation of Glocks has improved and added new features. Some of the improvements include an ambidextrous slide stop (left or right-handed), improved finish, interchangeable backstraps, redesigned internal parts, and the ability to add optical sights for increased accuracy. The new Glocks would also require new holsters due to the addition of the ambidextrous slide stop. The holster manufacturer (Safariland) that the Police Department has been using for decades does make a compatible holster with the same required safety features. The upgraded sights will give better visibility and target acquisition in low-light conditions compared to the standard night sights issued by Glock.\n\nThree price quotes were obtained for the following equipment:\n\nQuantity\tDescription\n295\t\tGlock 17/19 w/Ameriglo Trooper sights night sight, 5.5 trigger pull, three\n high-capacity magazines an other standard accessories\n\n295\t\tSafariland Holster Item # 7360-8325-411 for Gen 5 Glocks 17/19\n\n\nThe following are the acquired quotes for the Glocks w/Upgraded Night Sights:\n\nSupplier\t\tUnit\t\tNight \t\tTotal\t\tTrade-in\tEach (Total)\n\t\t\tPrice\t\tSights \tPrice\t\t(If \n\t\t\t\t\tPrice\t\t\t\tapplicable)\t\t\t\n\t\t\nRay O'Herron\t429\t\t71.50\t\t500.50\t250\t\t250.50\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t($73,897.50)\nKiesler Police\t481\t\t71.50\t\t552.50\tN/A\t\t552.50\nSupplies\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t ($162,987.50)\nGat Guns\t\t549\t\tIncluded\t549.00\tN/A\t\t549.00\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t ($161,955.00)\n\n\nRay O'Herron has been a supplier of Glock firearms for the Police Department in the past.
