The segment will connect Old Town with the Botanical Garden and Aquarium, the El Vado entertainment complex, the Rio Grande Bosque, the Rio Grande Bosque Multi-Use trail, and the Pedestrian Crossing on the Central Avenue Old Town Bridge.\r\n\r\nAnalysis: \r\n•\tThe NM Outdoor Recreation Division Trails+ Grant provides funding for community-\r\nled projects that develop or improve outdoor infrastructure, such as trails, river parks, and wildlife viewing areas, to enhance access. Eligible applicants include Tribes, local governments, non-profits, and school districts.\r\n•\tThe Department of Municipal Development applied for the grant on January 29th, \r\n2026, and received City Council approval for the grant application through EC-26-59. The grant request therefore complies with § 2-11-17 of the City Code of Ordinances requiring the Council’s approval of applications for federal and state grants.\r\n\r\nFiscal Impact: The grant will be assigned to Capital Fund (305). There is a required $1,000,000 match, which will be covered by funds reserved for the rail trail project in the capital accounts of the Departments of Municipal Development, Parks and Recreation, Arts and Culture, and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency.
