Through her work with individuals with mobility challenges, she has developed a strong understanding of universal design, ADA accessibility, and safe, connected transportation networks. Following the preventable death of her daughter at an unprotected crossing, Ms. Montoya has dedicated herself to improving roadway safety and accountability, approaching transportation through a public health and disability justice lens that emphasizes injury prevention, equity in infrastructure investment, and translating lived experience into policy.\r\n\r\nA resident of Council District 7, Ms. Montoya will fill a vacancy and serve as the Northeast Representative on the Committee; her first term will expire April 1, 2028.\r\n\r\nBoard Description: The Greater Albuquerque Active Transportation Committee (GAATC), established pursuant to ROA 1994, § 2-6-15, is an advisory body that provides recommendations to the City on policies, programs, and infrastructure related to active transportation, including walking, bicycling, use of mobility devices, and public transit. The Committee advises City departments and regional partners on planning and implementation of transportation projects, including bikeways, sidewalks, crossings, and Complete Streets and Vision Zero initiatives, and promotes safety, accessibility, and equitable transportation options for all users.
