The grant requires a one for one match. The $1,000,000 match will be covered by funds reserved  for this project between DMD, Parks and Recreation, Arts and Culture and the MRA. \r\n\r\nThis grant will help fund the West Old Town segment of the Rail Trail, connecting the Bosque trailhead at Central and Tingley to the Botanic Gardens at Central and New York and finally to Old Town Plaza.\r\n\r\nAnalysis: MRA previously conducted an alignment study to understand the constraints in the area and used the study to determine which path would provide the least resistance. Out of this study, the City determined that a parcel in between Rio Grande and Panmunjon Rd. would offer a simple connection through the difficult, residential area in-between Old Town and the Botanic Gardens. The City purchased the two properties in 2025 and they can be seen in the graphic below:\r\n\r\n[See map on write-up]\r\n\r\nFiscal Impact: No fiscal impact has been identified through this process. The grant is for $1 million, and all fees and work will be covered by the award. \r\n\r\nKey Dates: The grant application states that the project will be shovel ready within 3 months of receiving the grant.
